Palomar Observatory

When I was about 10 or so my grandparents took me on vacation, we visited San Diego, The Zoo, The Wild Animal Park and Palomar Mountain Observatory.

 

I went back to Palomar today.

Working

So, I work from home sometimes. The dogs don't really help much.

Engine Company No. 2

I love walking and running around the backlot. There are places I recognize from movies and places my imagination runs.

My mind can see the the antique fire trucks coming out of the station.

Clouds

These whispy clouds caught my eye.

They almost have the look of someone being transported on Star Trek.

Jack Jack Jack A Randa

May and June in Southern California the jacaranda trees bloom. There is purple everywhere. It's a sign of life.

Swim Test

Every year we get the dogs in the pool and make sure they swim to the big step where it's easy to get out.

They don't really like the water much which is good, then they aren't going in just for fun. When we swim the dogs like being near us but the collie always pulls the basset hound away from the edge to make sure she is safe.

Lounging At The Pool

Bassett Hounds are not known for their affinity to the water, Lacy just likes lounging by the pool.

Hockey Night in LA

Slash played the national anthem before the Kings-Blackhawks game. At attention next to him was a US Marine, being honored as the Hero Of The Game on this Memorial Day Weekend.

The Kings went on to win the game 4-3 with the Blackhawks pulling their goalie and forcing a goal with 4 seconds to go.

Pacific

When I was at UOP yesterday I bought a sweatshirt. I remember back when I went to school there I bought sweats when I first arrived in '86, this is the first school shirt I've bought since then.

UOP

I was at a conference in San Francisco and decided to take the round about way home via Stocktop to see the university I graduated from 24 years ago. I was reminded how fortunate I was to attend such a beautiful place.

And learn well.

A Beautiful Day

I'm in San Francisco for work. It's never this beautiful in San Francisco. Some fog I the morning because that's what you expect from SF, and then all the clouds burned off and it was amazing!

Signs in the Sidewalk

As I was walking the streets of San Francisco this morning I came across this medallion in the sidewalk. Apparently there is a 3.8 mile path around the city that features 20 or so historical sites. I might have to come back for this.

I spent some time wandering around the streets of San Francisco. Lots of memories in this city.

I found this little alley that led to a park.

The Central Valley

There was a time in the late '80's the there were not many places to stop as I made the drive north or south on The 5 between Stockton and Southern California. Harris Ranch was one of those places.

Just north of the exit is still the cattle ranch with 100's of cattle standing around in the dust and heat.

Further north is the Crows Landing Vista Point, a view area that I never stopped at before but always wanted to, just to get a view of the vast expanse of the valley.

The view here is towards the east, 180 degrees.

Land Crusher

When I was a teenager my folks had a Toyota Landcruiser, it must have been an '81 or '82, it was red. My wife and I just got a 2014 Jeep, I'd like to have an old Land Cruiser.

T-Bird

I see this car in the parking structure occasionally.

An old Thunderbird, from the days when they were big, like a condor.

Is the red towel hanging on the corner of the building really going to prevent someone from knocking their head on the corner.

The kids and I were having frozen yogurt, there is a massage parlor next door.

We made cinnamon rolls for Mother's Day.

Seems like deep in the rainforest but it's actually just at the local mall.

I like sushi, especially when a vendor is buying lunch.

At Teru they don't let you pick your own fish from the pond out front.

Lazy

Took a break at lunch and went for a golf cart cruise around the lot.

One of the perks to my job.

Eddie

The Hard Rock Cafe at Universal Citywalk. That's where I had my 30th birthday party, on the balcony over the front door. My amazing wife surprised me with a bunch of friends and a "kit" to build my first guitar.

Slobber Hound

We used to call Baxter the "slobber hound" because we would find basset hound slobber 6 feet high in the hallway of our house,, well now it seems we have another.

Though at this point Lacy just seems to throw it on her own head.

Glasses

For 30+ years I wore glasses! then I had laser eye surgery 4 years ago. It's been great not wearing glasses. They tell you that eye surgery is not permanent. I did kinda hope it would be longer, but today I got new glasses. I don't need to wear them all the time, I fact they are a very mild prescription for when I just want to see a little more crisp.

I got some cool Ray-Bans. I never had cool glasses before.

Ferrari

The boy got a remote controlled car last year. It's controlled with either the iPad or iPhone.

It's really pretty cool. The only thing that would make it better is if it did video so you could get a drivers eye view.

Edwards Air Force Base

Went to Edwards Air Force Base with the scouts today. This is where the history of jet flight was made.

PCS

Open House at the kids school tonight. Beautiful clear sky, beautiful weather and a chance to see the hard work of a bunch of kids.

My boy was particularly enthusiastic about Open House this year wanting to make sure I saw all of the classrooms, including the jr high he will be in next year.

I used to live up the street from this hotel which is on the historic Route 66.
