A little catch up

So, it's been nearly a year and a half since I posted anything and quite a year and a half it's been.

In October I joined a group of folks, including my lovely wife and participated in the Las Vegas Ragnar Relay running a total of 195 miles. I ran about 18 broken up over three segments. One segment was the fastest I've ever run in my life that included 5 miles of downhill. There was this young girl that tried to pass me early on but I was able to hold her off. When I said to her at the end that she ran great, she rlied, "You're a beast!" as a team we did pretty well and had a great time.

My brother completed his battle with pancreatic cancer on November 5, 2010. Needless to say my world was rocked dramatically. I miss him a lot sand I'm sad that he's not around to watch his boy grow into a young man that he'd be proud of. I know he's no longer hurting and he is with Jesus and experiencing the eternal life we are promised.

After the first of the year for 2011 I got myself back on the training plan getting ready for the Pasadena 1/2 Marathon in May. I was joined by an old friend from high school and we ran together. I haven't seen Charlie in a long time so the run was a time to catch up...and we finished in under two hours. We felt pretty good about it and went out to breakfast afterward and had some bacon.

Lately I've been training for the Malibu Nautica Triathlon. Scott at work convinced me to sign up for the international distance which is longer than I did back in 2008 with a 1.5k ocean swim, 40k bike ride, and 10k run....it's probably better that I don't know what the metric conversion is. I've been running a few times a week and been out on the bike a lot with some 35+ mile rides the last few weeks. Swimming has consisted of riding my bike down to Santa Fe Dam and swimming the length of the swim area and back then riding the 10 miles home, plus some regular swimming in my back yard pool. I'm still a bit overwhelmed with the thought of it.

As part of participating with the team from work in the Malibu Triathlon we raise money for pediatric cancer research at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. This year I have thus far surpassed my goal of raising $2500 thanks to Lots of wonderful people showing their support and even giving in honor of my brother.

So that's where I am.
